Chrysanthemums
The chrysanthemum is a versatile flower that is popular as a cut flower worldwide. Chrysanthemums come in many different varieties, shapes and colours and can therefore be used in many different arrangements. By the way, did you know that the flower is originally yellow? We will tell you more about this stylish flower.
Country of origin
The chrysanthemum has been extremely popular in Asia for centuries. The flower is originally from China and Japan, where people fell in love with it at once. Chrysanthemums made their first appearance in Europe around 1700. The name chrysanthemum comes from Greek: chrys (gold) and anthemon (flower). Originally you could only enjoy the chrysanthemum in golden yellow.
Types of chrysanthemum
A great advantage of chrysanthemums is that these flowers are available all year round! Chrysanthemums come in many varieties. From a springy ball to a disbudded variety (less leaves, more flower), small and large-flowered chrysanthemum, and the santini with its special inflorescence with flowers branched on from the stem. And then there is also the classic spray chrysanthemum. The size of the chrysanthemum flower varies from 1cm to 14 cm.
Colours
It’s easy to forget that the chrysanthemum is originally yellow; nowadays the flower is available in an unprecedented wide colour palette. They come in yellow, pink, lilac and lime green in spring and summer, in warm red and autumn brown hues in autumn and in white and deep pink in winter.
Symbolism
Stylish chrysanthemums give you both endless colour and a large amount of happiness. This flower stands for happiness and health. Not only is that nice to have on your own table at home, but it is also perfect to give as a gift!
Madiba
Within the santinis you will find the brand name Madiba. These are small-flowered santinis that excel in colour, number of flowers and shelf life. They therefore give extra value and volume to bouquets and arrangements. True Flower Power flowers!
They are grown with passion at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. There, over 900 employees lay the foundation for Madiba's top quality every day. The brand name Madiba is named after the pet name for Nelson Mandela, another colourful connector.
Care
The chrysanthemum is one of the strongest and most reliable flowers around and needs little care. Let us give you a few tips to enjoy this beautiful flower for 10-14 days.
On the shop floor
• Chrysanthemums can be stored dry in the cold store at 2-5°C. Make sure the flowers don’t get damp through excessive humidity or condensation in the cellophane.
• Do not leave the chrysanthemums in the box for too long. Put them in fresh water in a clean vase or bucket after purchase. Make sure there are no leaves hanging in the water.
• Use some cut flower food if necessary.

Inspiration
Chrysanthemums mix well with other flowers. Opt for the simplicity of a robust pot with chrysanthemums, hanging Amaranthus caudatus and hydrangea. Or go for a little more colour and combine the chrysanthemum with rose hips and gerberas. And what do you think about the refined bouquet on the photo? Here chrysanthemums are combined with dahlias, gerberas, Aralia and Anthurium leaves. By covering the edges of the Anthurium leaf with copper leaf, you create a very special effect!
